Used vs. open-box vs. scratch-and-dent appliances: which should you buy?
What each condition means, what warranty you get, and how much you can save on refrigerators, washers, dryers and ranges in Orlando.
The short answer
If you want the lowest price, buy used. If you want a like-new appliance with a full warranty for less than retail, buy open-box or scratch-and-dent. All three are cleaned and tested in our Orlando shop before they're sold.
Open-box (New / Open Box)
Open-box appliances are new units whose box was opened — a store return, a display model, or a cancelled order. They have never been installed in a home for regular use. At Fast Appliances, new and open-box appliances include a 1-year warranty.
Best for: homeowners who want new-condition performance and a long warranty at a lower price.
Scratch-and-dent
Scratch-and-dent appliances are new, but have a cosmetic mark from shipping or handling — usually on a side panel that ends up hidden between cabinets. The mark doesn't affect how the appliance works. Each listing shows photos of the actual unit so you can see exactly where the mark is.
Best for: anyone whose appliance sits between cabinets or against a wall — you get a new unit and the dent stays out of sight.
Used and Certified Pre-Owned
Used appliances were previously owned. We clean them, test them through full cycles, and replace worn parts before sale. Used appliances include a 3-month warranty, and you can add a 1-year CPS protection plan for $69.95.
Best for: rentals, Airbnbs, garages, first apartments and anyone on a tight budget.
How to choose
Ask three questions: How long do you plan to keep it? Will anyone see the sides? How much warranty do you want? Long-term in your own kitchen → open-box. Between cabinets → scratch-and-dent. Rental or second fridge → used, plus the protection plan if you want peace of mind.
